Wetlands are not merely ecological assets—they are living systems with the power to heal the human mind, body, and society.

Through the integration of mindfulness, stress science, and clinical research, we are increasingly understanding the profound scientific connection between nature and human well-being.

Wellness in Wetlands 2026 aims to bring this knowledge into action—bridging science, tradition, and practice to enhance the quality of human life.

This is more than a conference; it is a platform where knowledge meets purpose, and where a more compassionate, resilient future begins.

The conference will explore six thematic pillars

  1. Nature and Mental Well-being: How wetlands and natural environments support brain function, emotional balance, and mental health.
  2. Human Health and the Planet: Understanding the interconnected relationship between human well-being, ecosystems, and global environmental change.
  3. Restoring and Protecting Wetlands: Advancing nature-based solutions for biodiversity conservation, climate adaptation, and water security.
  4. Changing Human Behavior for a Sustainable Future: Promoting environmental education, behavioral change, and leadership for sustainability.
  5. Wetlands, Tourism and Community Livelihoods: Strengthening eco-tourism, wellness tourism, and sustainable local economies.

Special Focus: Sustainable Homestay Program

As part of the ongoing project Conserving Nature's Treasures: Empowering Communities for Sustainable Wetland Management and Eco-Tourism in Baddagana and Rampart Wetlands Park, funded by UNDP GEF SGP Sri Lanka and supported by the Urban Development Authority (UDA), Sri Jayawardanapura Kotte Divisional Secretariat, the Western Province Tourist Board Sri Lanka, and several university academics, we have trained 40 local site guides and launched Sustainable Homestays in the Ramsar-certified Colombo Wetland City.

About Us

Who We Are

The Wellness in Wetland conference is proudly spearheaded by the Emotional Intelligence and Life Skills Training Team (Gte) Ltd. Established as a non-profit organization, we are officially registered under the Companies Act No. 07 of 2007 (Registration No. BRN GL 2201) in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

Our Origin & Evolution

Our journey began from a place of deep empathy and absolute resilience. Founded in the aftermath of the devastating Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami on December 26, 2004, our organization was forged through raw, hands-on experience working closely with the families of over 30,000 victims.

To help broken individuals rebuild their lives from scratch, we pioneered a completely new approach. We developed highly engaging, creative, and recreational methodologies focused entirely on emotional management and life skills development. Over the years, this unique, signature framework for understanding and guiding human behavior has matured. It has empowered thousands of individuals to take back total control of their lives, their mindsets, and their destinies.

Our Impact & Scope

As our core expertise grew, we expanded our footprint across critical socio-economic, corporate, and national initiatives where behavioral transformation was needed most:

  • Post-Conflict Rehabilitation: Provided vital psychosocial support to populations displaced by the civil war in Sri Lanka and contributed significantly to the rehabilitation programs for ex-combatants, helping them transition smoothly back into society.
  • Military Empowerment: Conducted specialized capacity-building and emotional empowerment programs for Sri Lanka Army officers to optimize operational stress management and resilience.
  • National Sports Performance: Actively helping national-level sports teams unlock and achieve their Peak Potential by training athletes to master their psychological state and performance frameworks.
  • Environmental Sustainability: Successfully adapted our behavioral-change methodologies to promote eco-friendly initiatives, including Electronic Waste (E-waste) management, crucial wetland conservation, and the promotion of sustainable eco-tourism.
  • Technology & Human Well-being: Actively co-developing and supporting the creation of behavioral-change tools designed to help humans successfully integrate and leverage technology to maximize psychological and physical well-being.
  • Corporate Excellence: Equipped corporate workforces with cutting-edge Emotional Intelligence (EQ) tools, drastically driving up bottom-line productivity, eliminating workplace friction, and forging bulletproof team synergy.

The Genesis of the Conference

Driven by a singular vision to share this massive wealth of localized experience and practical knowledge on a global stage, we established the Wellness in Wetland conference.

Launched with the esteemed support of the UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP), and organized in close collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) and SriLankan Airlines, this milestone event has become a benchmark annual international gathering entirely dedicated to holistic well-being, ecological harmony, and human development.

Wetlands: The Living Source of Ecological Balance

Sri Lanka’s wetlands are the vital gears driving its ecological equilibrium and climate resilience. From the vast, bio-diverse expanse of the Muthurajawela Marsh to the urban sanctuaries of the Baddagana and Rampart wetlands in Colombo, these ecosystems serve as critical habitats for endangered flora and fauna.

Beyond ecological preservation, these wetlands play a indispensable role in municipal infrastructure: providing natural flood control, urban cooling, water purification, and climate regulation. Through community-led eco-tourism frameworks and aggressive green conservation. Sri Lanka’s recognition as a Global Green Destination underscores its active dedication to preserving its natural wealth.

The 2026 Thematic Focus

Building directly upon the foundational outcomes of our inaugural meeting and the historic Kingdom of Kotte Declaration, the 2026 conference bridges clinical stress science, traditional wisdom, and environmental policy across six thematic pillars:

  1. Nature and Mental Well-being (Blue-green spaces and brain function)
  2. Human Health and the Planet (Planetary health ecosystems)
  3. Restoring and Protecting Wetlands (Nature-based solutions and water security)
  4. Changing Human Behavior for a Sustainable Future (Life skills and green leadership)
  5. Wetlands, Tourism, and Community Livelihoods (Regenerative and wellness tourism)
  6. Empowering Children, Youth, and Women (Emotional intelligence for future generations)
